CATS looking for new homes had their dreams answered at a rehoming event held by the Worcester and District Cat's Protection charity.

A dozen homeless cats, currently being fostered by volunteers, were taken to Powick Parish Hall on Saturday, where almost all found new homes.

There were a variety of cats at the event, from black to white and youngsters to more mature cats, but it seemed age made no difference to one couple who came to take home 10-year-old Alex.

Nicola Lane, of Lambert Road, St John’s, decided to adopt Alex with her partner as he is a house cat.

She said: "I’ve wanted to get Alex as soon as I heard about him several weeks ago, so I’m really happy to finally come and collect him.

"I instantly fell in love with him as soon as I saw a picture of him, and even more so when I heard about the hard life he’s led being a stray. He deserves a good home and lots of pampering. I’m sure he’ll be very happy in his new home."

And it was a similar story for many other cats.

Annette Kemp, who voluntarily cares for some of the cats while they wait for a new home, said: "The purpose of the event is to give people the opportunity to see some of the beautiful cats we have up for adoption, while also offering help and advice.

"It's really gone well. Nearly all the cats have found homes. Two-year-old Blackie is one of the cats that hasn't been adopted, we always have problems rehoming black cats.

"We're delighted Alex has gone to a good home, he's been with us since the summer, which is a long time. It's great they want to give a 10-year-old cat a chance, he needs love as well.

"We would advise people to come to us, not to social media sites, if they would like a pet cat, for the £55 fee all the cats have extensive health checks and are microchipped."
