LOVE was in the air on Valentine's Day and so was Pershore student Megan Thomas as she took on a daring skydive.

The 18-year-old student undertook the challenge on February 14 in a bid to raise some money to help orphaned children in Malawi.

The Pershore Sixth Former needs to raise £5,900 in order to travel to the southeast African country and volunteer at an orphanage for 12 months.

Miss Thomas, who speaks German as well as English thanks to spending part of her childhood on the continent, will be doing the volunteering with Project Trust, a charity organisations that provides volunteer placements abroad.

And she managed to raise more than £1,200 towards the trip from the jump.

She said: "The skydive was amazing. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Although it was a lot of organisation, I was able to do the jump for free if I raised over £395 for charity.

"I jumped from 13 thousand feet and was in the air for around 40 seconds.

"Thanks to all my sponsors, I raised over £1,200 just from the jump alone. I am planning to do more fundraising events such as booking the Abbey for a concert and doing a race night."
