A DRUNK former circus worker urinated in front of a horrified woman who was waiting for her friend outside a Worcester shopping centre.

Carl Bainbridge of Langdale Drive, Warndon, Worcester admitted breaching his criminal antisocial behaviour order when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Monday.

The 29-year-old urinated outside the entrance to CrownGate shopping centre in Broad Street, Worcester, at around 6pm on February 17, placing him in breach of the order imposed on August 20 last year.

Jackie Rogers, prosecuting, said: "She was standing in that position, waiting for a friend. Her attention was drawn to the defendant who was sitting on a bench nearby.

She thought he was drunk because he was unable to sit up and kept slouching.

"After 15 minutes she saw him stand up and urinate on the floor. His penis was in full view, facing towards the shop. He continued for five minutes. This made her feel very shocked and uncomfortable.

"She would have moved away but she had to wait there because that is where she had agreed to meet her friend. She felt stuck."

Her friend later called police about the incident and a police community support officer attended and tried to rouse the defendant.

"The defendant replied by swearing at him. He became more aggressive towards him, starting not only to swear at him but also to threaten him. He continued to be threatening and finally he was arrested when a police officer arrived" said Mrs Rogers.

Barry Newton, defending, said: "I have represented Mr Bainbridge over the last several months since the Crasbo was made. There was a considerable break in his offending between 2012 and 2014.

"He had previously been in full time work with a travelling circus, erecting marquees."

A community order had previously been made and he was sent to custody on January 21 and when released returned to Worcester. Mr Newton said: "He meets up with some drinking friends and drinks himself silly to the point where he is out of it on the bench.

"When interviewed he was apologetic for what that lady had witnessed during his drunken stupor."

Mr Newton said Bainbridge was making 'remarkable progress' to address his drinking on a voluntary basis through Pathways.

District judge V. Monro said: "It's clear to me you are a repeat offender." However, she accepted he was making progress through Pathways and he was turning up to appointments sober.

Miss Monro imposed a four week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £80.
