A REPORT into how Jimmy Savile was able to sexually abuse children in hospitals will have wide-ranging impacts for NHS trusts across the country, one of Worcestershire’s top health bosses has said.

Speaking at a meeting of the governing board of Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust on Wednesday, March 11 the organisation’s chief executive of Sarah Dugan warned her colleagues they “shouldn’t under-estimate” the impact of the report commissioned by health secretary Jeremy Hunt, which was published last month.

Among the recommendations in the report are that all NHS hospitals should develop a policy for managing celebrity, VIP or official visitors and abide by it without exception, carry out regular reviews of safeguarding policies and restrict access to the internet where appropriate.

Mrs Dugan said the report was “something the board really needs to be aware of”.

“Something to be conscious of is how ride ranging the report is,” she said.

“It even ranges to how we design and manage our mortuaries “We shouldn’t under-estimate how big of an impact this has.”

But she added there was no evidence the former Top of the Pops presenter had ever visited hospitals in Worcestershire.
