STAN Collymore completed his #7m move to Aston Villa - the team he supported as a youngster - then set his sights on winning the FA Premiership title.
Collymore was paraded before a packed press conference at Villa Park after signing a four-year contract with the Midlands outfit.
His transfer from Liverpool has smashed Villa's previous record for a player of #4m for transfer-listed midfielder Sasa Curcic.
Collymore said: ''It's brilliant to get a move to the team I supported as a lad and it's not sunk in yet. I want to look forward and not back and I'm hoping the best years of my career are to come with Villa.
''I'm excited about the prospect of playing alongside Dwight Yorke, he is a great footballer and I am hoping the two of us can provide as good an understanding and as many goals as myself and Robbie Fowler.
''There are people who still have doubts about me and I'm out to prove them all wrong and be a success under manager Brian Little.''
Little said: ''I'm delighted. If ever there was someone I have been following over a length of time that I felt was right then Stan is that man.
''There's no doubt that he can add something to what is already a very good squad. We have re-established ourselves in the top six over the past two years and I am hoping this signing will help us to reach the very top bracket.''
q Leeds United have completed the #500,000 signing of Scottish international full-back David Robertson from Rangers.
Italian clubs Perugia and Torino were both keen to land Robertson, whose contract at Ibrox has expired.
However, Robertson chose a move to the Premiership and Leeds manager George Graham said: ''I'm delighted David has agreed to join us. He's experienced at international level and is very quick and likes to get forward.''
The arrival of Robertson casts a doubt over the future of Tony Dorigo, but Graham added: ''If Tony wants to stay I will be more than happy.''
q Newcastle could be prepared to break the bank for the second year running in a bid to lure Alessandro del Piero from Juventus.
The Premiership runners-up are believed to be interested in signing del Piero, who is valued by the Turin club at #14m.
Umberto Agnelli, whose family own the Turin club, said he would be willing to let both del Piero and Christian Vieri go at the end of the season at the right price.
''I wish that both del Piero and Vieri can stay with Juventus next season.
''However, if bids between #12m to #14m have been actually made for the two players, it's right for the club to take them in due consideration,'' he said.
Spanish club Atletico Madrid are reported to have bid #12m for Vieri. The striker has burst into the first team as well as the Italian national side this season.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
