GEOFFREY PARKHOUSE, political editor of the Herald for almost 22 years, died yesterday aged 63.

Geoffrey joined the paper in 1975 from the Sunday Express, having previously been a member of the Daily Mail's parliamentary team.

Mr Harry Reid, acting Editor of The Herald said: ''Geoffrey was a wonderful journalist and, more importantly, a good man who lived a good life. He was enormously kind and he had great charm, which he often used to disguise just how hard and effectively he worked. He served The Herald and British politics well and with style.''
