A 72-year-old grandfather was jailed for six years yesterday for offences against two young sisters 18 years ago.

Francis Cowan also admitted four previous convictions for charges against children at the High Court in Glasgow.

The court was told how the sisters were abused by Cowan at his homes in Pendeen Crescent and Torran Road, Barlanark, Glasgow, on various occasions from January, l979.

Miss Sherrin Smith, prosecuting, said the abuse started when one of the girls was aged three-and-a-half and continued until she was 11.

The second girl was abused for four years from the age of eight.

Cowan, whose address was given as care of Barlinnie Prison, was described as ''pathetic and decrepit''.

He admitted two charges against the girls and his pleas of not guilty to two similar charges against them were accepted.
