I FIND the objection to the two Sunday School teachers (August 19) who told their pupils that Diana is in hell puzzling. The Bible clearly teaches that there are basically two categories of person - those who are saved by having accepted Christ as Saviour and those who reject Christ and are lost.

All the evidence points to Diana having been a Christ rejecter in spite of her charity work. After all, atheists and agnostics can do charity work and often do.

The Archdeacon of Aston might describe it as ''barmy and perverted theology'' but it is none the less biblical theology. The Roman Catholic Church would probably say that Diana is in purgatory for a season. The comment of one parent that Diana is a ''star in heaven'' is laughable.

No-one, of course, has the right to say what the fate of another person is but they have the right to quote what the Bible has to say about it.

That is the Protestant position, the authority of Scripture. For if we talk about the tradition of the Church, what Church are we referring to? The RC Church, the Church of Scotland (that doesn't know what it believes), the Anglican Church, or the Free Churches?
