This weekend's third annual RGU Sports Indoor Cup in Garthdee in Aberdeen has attracted a quality field, including four Subway national league first division outfits.

Inverleith, the holders, are paired with Dundee Wan-derers, second in division one, and the local side Tinto Granite City Wanderers, who are top of the fourth division. Depending on the quality of the squads brought to the north-east, the clash between Inverleith and Dundee will surely decide Group 1.

Favourites for the other pool must be Menzieshill, Scottish champions for the last four seasons and leading this year's campaign with a 100% record. This will be no festive picnic for Bruce Cuthill's charges as they prepare for the European Club Championships at the Bell's Sports Centre in Perth in mid-February.

Pool opponents are Insights Harris, newcomers to the first division and involved in the relegation play-offs, and AAM Gor-donians from the second division.

Despite their lowly position in the top flight, Harris were far from overawed in their league encounter with the champions and only lost 4-1. By contrast, Gordonians, top of division 2, are vying for promotion along with CALA Edinburgh.

The form-book suggests that the final should produce the second meeting of the season between Menzieshill and Dundee Wanderers. Although Menzieshill will again be favourites, there is always an unpredictable element about the meeting of the Dundee duo, although a lot may depend on the make-up of the squads.
