YOUNGSTERS from a Vale school enjoyed learning about the work of a guide dog during a recent visit to a new housing development.

During the afternoon children from Honeybourne First School Academy learnt what it takes for a puppy to become a fully trained guide dog and the ways they can help a visually impaired person in and around the home.

Ruth Oliver, a volunteer for the Guide Dogs charity, came along with six-month old puppy Bryony.

She said: "It was great to meet all the children who were really excited to see Bryony and learn about his role with people who are visually impaired.

"We talked about the dog’s training and life once they’ve been housed with their new owner and the work which the charity does within the local area."

The visit took place at the Abacot Fields development on Station Road, Honeybourne, and was arranged by developers, David Wilson Homes.

Elaine Huntington, headteacher, added: "We were very pleased to be offered this session for our children, by David Wilson Homes.

"The children found the information about training a guide dog and the work the dogs do most interesting. They thoroughly enjoyed the session, especially meeting Bryony."
