A COUNCIL debt adviser has been ordered to pay out £6000 after losing her "unreasonable" case for unfair dismissal.

Rona Rodger had claimed she was bullied, harassed and victimised by North Ayrshire Council.

She lost her sex discrimination, victimisation and constructive and unfair dismissal claims at an employment tribunal earlier this year.

The action against the council and six officials cost the authority more than £100,000, and Ms Roger has now been ordered to pay £6000 towards its costs.

She raised the action after resigning from her job as a debt adviser in the social work department in March 2005. She claimed she was bullied and harassed into resigning, but the hearing rejected her claims.

Lawyers for the council also argued Ms Rodger had acted unreasonably in bringing and conducting the proceedings, and sought to recover some of the costs.

Ms Rodger denied she had acted vexatiously or unreasonably, saying she genuinely believed she had been subjected to improper conduct by a number of individuals over a period of time.

The tribunal concluded she had not acted vexatiously.

However, the panel found her action in raising sex discrimination and victimisation claims against particular individuals was misconceived and unreasonable.

Ms Rodger, of Townend, Kilmaurs, has been ordered to pay £6000 towards the costs.
