DECORATING the top of a pork pie wedding cake may not be his normal day job but that was one of the things celebrity DJ Sir Terry Wogan got up to when he visited the Vale.

The famous presenter headed to the area to film an episode for his new BBC2 show, the Great British Food Trip, which sees Sir Terry journey around the country.

On his tour of the Vale, famed for its growing industry, he visited Fladbury Pies where he got busy lending a hand.

Arran Churchill, a butcher at the business in Church Street, Fladbury, said Sir Terry was a "down to earth" chap.

"They rang Simon the pieman, or Simon Taylor, the owner, and they came and made some pies with him," he said.

"He was a really nice bloke, really down to earth, they had a bit of a laugh.

"While he was here he made what we're calling the Vale pie. It is filled with fruits from the Vale like plums and apples. He came and they filmed him making it.

"I think he is travelling around the country."

During his time at the butchers Sir Terry also tried his hand at decorating the Fladbury Pies famous pork pie wedding cake with some caramelised plums.

"He basically came because we produce the pork pie wedding cakes so they came to look at that and caramelised some plums together to dress the top of the cake," added Mr Churchill.

"He really liked them he thought it was brilliant and more and more people are having them these days.

"All of us are fans of him. When he first came Simon said to him I am really nervous about this but Sir Terry said don't worry, it's only TV.

"He put him at ease and they had a good time, just two blokes having a laugh and making some pies."

During his visit to the area Sir Terry also visited the Fleece Inn at Bretforton, Evesham United Football Club's ground and lent his support to a fundraising trip heading through the town.
