THE use of coaches and car-sharing to boost mid-week attendances is being trialled by Worcester City.

Although Saturday crowds at Aggborough have consistently broken the 500-barrier in the two seasons since City left St George’s Lane, Tuesday night games do not reach the same level.

The Conference North club are keen to address the issue and have organised coach travel from Worcester to Kidderminster for Tuesday’s home derby against Gloucester City.

Fans can book at today’s match against Hyde (3pm), as well as via the club’s website, where they can also register their interest in car sharing.

It comes in response to a questionnaire aimed at gauging supporters’ views on ways to attract them to City matches in mid-week.

A total of 42 per cent expressed an interest in travel schemes, with 60 per cent of those quizzed saying they would pay £5 to travel on a coach.

Director Mike Davis said: “This is something we can act on. We will certainly offer coach travel to the Gloucester game and think about how car sharing could be arranged.

“If either or both prove successful we will look at putting them in place regularly next season.”

However, City may opt not to increase prices next season despite more than half of those polled supporting a rise.

Instead, they will focus on making their season-ticket packages more tempting after 84 per cent who responded said they would buy one for the 2015-16 campaign.

Davis said: “Although there was a 55 per cent to 44 per cent vote in favour of an increase in prices, we do not think this gave us the confidence to follow that path.

“The encouraging percentages were for season tickets in general and we will be looking at ways to make these even more attractive for next season.”
