THE future of Evesham and how it's moving forward was one of the main topics of questioning at the town's annual meeting on Monday.

The yearly event took place at the town hall and was a positive night, according to councillors.

The main questions surrounded the town plan, which has been formally accepted by the town council, and other smaller issues such as allotments and planning procedures.

Future councillor Colin Tether said he was concerned about the balance of the steering group taking the town plan forward.

"The first question I asked was about the town plan," he said. "There's going to be a delivery team for the town plan and the meeting in March said it would include seven town councillors and three non town councillors.

"The steering group before had one town councillor and three or four other members. That was very much based in the community and not in the town council. I said why does it need to be such town council orientated now. We want the community to deliver this as well.

"I just think it should be more in the community."

The meeting was seen to be a success by councillors, who felt they were able to better answer questions directed at them than in the past when they have been centred on topics outside of the jurisdiction of the town council.

The mayor Cllr Charlie Homer said: "The public meeting was well attended again. Poignant questions were asked and questions I think that the town plan addressed in the long term, looking forward for the next 12 to 18 months some of the bigger questions we will know more about then.

"Last night I felt confident in being able to give and informed answer to the questions we received."

Cllr Emma Haynes added: "I was quite impressed that this time the questions were relevant and could be answered by the town council and I thought that was brilliant.

"That goes to show that maybe social media educates people a bit on our role."
