WORK has started on a new and improved refreshment kiosk in Evesham’s Abbey Park.

Wychavon District Council has signed a contract with Spectrum Construction Ltd to build the new timber framed kiosk to replace the existing structure.

The current building is set to be demolished early next month and the project is due for completion in early July.

Once building work is complete the surrounding landscape will be revamped with new shrub planting and the sowing of a wildflower meadow to make the area more attractive for park users.

The existing kiosk has been in place since 1997 when it was converted from the former bowls club pavilion. However, its size limited the type of food and drink that could be offered and the lack of indoor seating meant it was only able to open in good weather.

Lynn Stevens, parks officer for Wychavon District Council, said: “We’re delighted to see work start on the new kiosk which will enhance the fantastic facilities already available in Abbey Park. We look forward to it opening in the summer.”
