A LUCKY Worcestershire woman has been handed the keys to a brand new car after winning a hospice raffle.

A ticket bought by Olwen Humphreys of Honeybourne, near Evesham, was picked out of thousands of entries as the winner of a Mazda 3 in this year’s St Richard’s Hospice raffle.

The annual raffle has raised more than £40,000 for the hospice over the years, all of which will be used to support the charity’s work supporting patients and their families at the end of their lives.

Mrs Humphries, whose winning ticket was drawn by hospice patient Marion Edmunds on Tuesday, March 31, said she was “in shock but thrilled” to win the raffle.

“I have been supporting the hospice car raffle for many years now and not once did I ever think I would win the car,” she said.

The raffle was sponsored by Edwards Motors in Kempsey, Worcester Racecourse, letting agents Premier Places in Foregate Street and printing firm Droitwich Print.

The hospice’s community fundraiser Lizzie Brazier said: “As always we have been delighted by the support offered to the hospice by the local community.

“We would like to thank all the local businesses and all our volunteers who helped sell tickets across the county and of course to everyone who bought a ticket and helped us raise such a fantastic amount to help us continue to care.”

St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for more than 2,600 patients living with life-threatening illnesses and conditions and their families every year.

The charity runs a 17-bed in-patient unit at its hospice in Wildwood Drive, where staff are on hand 24 hours a day, and also supports patients in their own homes.
