A FUN-filled programme of events will help children get lost in books this summer.

The National Trust owned Croome Court, near Pershore, will launch the Library Services and Reading Agency’s ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ on Saturday, June 27.

The theme of this year's challenge is ‘record breakers’ and there will be chances for visitors to be part of a regional record-breaking attempt and opportunities to meet world-famous authors.

Puppeteers, poets, music performers, workshops, pop-up theatre and family trails will keep families entertained all day at Croome over three events during the summer.

On June 27 there will be a book-signing by children's author Cathy Cassidy, author of the Chocolate Box Secret.

The second event takes place on Wednesday, July 29 where writer Lemn Sissay MBE will be joined by poet laureates from across the region for a day of puppetry and poetry workshops.

Then on Wednesday, August 26 Croome will host circus skills workshops and theatrical performances.

The reading challenge encourages children aged four to 12 to read six or more library books of their choice during the long summer break.

Children can collect stickers and other rewards along the way with a certificate and medal when all six books are finished.

Families can head to their local library and enrol or turn up at Croome on the day with their library card to gain free entry.

There will be a mobile library stationed at Croome for children to borrow books for their summer holidays.

Rachel Sharpe, Croome’s local partnerships officer, said: "After another successful event last year, we were delighted to host a third year of Summer Reading Challenge events at Croome and we’re really over the moon to have Cathy Cassidy joining us. We hope everyone enjoys the beautiful setting of Croome and all the amazing activities we have in store for them. We are also encouraging families to bring along their picnics to make a day of enjoying the delightful outdoor spaces of Croome.”

Clik Clik, a creative entertainment venture, will also have a range of activities available for children and adults to take part in.
