A TEAM of hardy fundraisers strapped on their walking boots and strode the entire length of the Worcestershire Way in aid of a county hospice.

More than 80 walkers took part in the 31-mile walk in aid of St Richard’s Hospice on Friday, June 19, leaving from Bewdley bright and early at 6am, with the speediest participants reaching the Malvern Hills by 2.30pm.

Senior fundraiser at the charity Alison Parkes said: “It was a great event with team spirit and camaraderie amongst the walkers taking part.

“It’s a tough challenge but we have many walkers come back year after year to put themselves to the test and raise funds to help our patient care.

“We are hopeful that this year walkers will have raised in the region of £18,000 towards our care which is a fantastic amount.

“Many people took on this challenge in memory of someone special, as a way of saying thank you for the hospice care they received.

“But often at the end of the walk they realise that they have achieved something fantastic for themselves too.”

The event was sponsored by Carisson Properties Ltd with Worcestershire County Council providing vehicle assistance.

St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care and support to more than 2,600 patients with life-threatening conditions and their families every year.

The charity runs an day hospice as well as well as a 24-hour inpatient unit in Wildwood Drive, Worcester.
