A TRAINING centre for people in Evesham with learning disabilities is gearing up for a special event.
Working World Evesham will hold its summer show on Sunday, July 5, at 2pm at Evesham Football Club – and has promised a “glorious mixture of song, dance, comedy, poetry and music”.
The show is performed by service users of the good cause and will be followed by a celebratory barbecue and activities including a tombola and raffle.
Helen Hurdman, manager of Working World, said: “The show is an extremely special time of the year as clients join in with enthusiasm and although they work hard at rehearsals it’s not work-based, which makes a refreshing change as we come to the end of our calendar year.
“Every time we do the show it is such a lovely time for everyone involved - clients, parents, carers and supporters come together to join in an afternoon of celebration.”
Kelly Golder, who has helped organise the show, added: “The clients who choose to take part decide what they want to do, whether this is singing a solo they’ve done in their private singing lessons, standing up and telling jokes or tap dancing.
“They give up their own time to come along to the rehearsals. If a client needs an interpreter on stage with them, we’ll organise this. Because people come on different days they get to know more people by working together in new groups.
“It’s a really good confidence booster. We always do a group number - this year we’re dancing to Happy and we’ll be showing off some of our Zumba moves, which we do as a fun health and fitness activity together.
“Some clients start by thinking that they can’t do this but they really blossom in the process”.
Working World Evesham is a training centre for people with a learning disability who need a little extra support getting into the workplace. It currently supports more than 30 people aged between 19 and 53.
