A PENSIONER has cycled the entire length of the Worcester to Birmingham Canal to raise cash for the city hospice which cared for his wife in her final days.

Bill Richardson of St Peter’s, Worcester, took on the 30-mile challenge on Saturday, June 27 in memory of his wife Brenda.

The 66-year-old, who was joined in the ride by his son David and son-in-law Tom Bartley-Smith, got in the saddle to raise cash for St Richard’s Hospice, where Brenda was cared for before her death in 2012.

He said: “The care that Brenda received from the staff at St Richard’s was wonderful and they were also a great help to me and the rest of the family at a very difficult time.”

Mr Richardson is a long-time supporter of the hospice and has taken on a number of challenges over the years including a Worcestershire Way walk, Malvern Hills challenge, Clee Hill walk and twice rambling the entire length of the canal.

He has so far raised about £750 for the hospice, which is being matched by his former employer Barclays Bank, taking his total to more than £1,500.
