POLICE are still investigating a sexual assault on a woman in Worcester – the second such attack in two days.

The 18-year-old was walking from Mill Street onto Portland Street, where her car was parked, at about 1am on Saturday, when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown man.

This follows another attack less than 24 hours in which a girl was sexually assaulted in Tunnel Hill, Worcester, on Friday morning.

But police have said the attacks are not being linked as the descriptions of the attackers differ significantly.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: “We understand that this incident is concerning and worrying for the local community, we are working with the victim to provide support through this distressing time.

“A thorough and robust investigation is underway following this incident, our officers are exploring all avenues of inquiries to ensure that we locate the offender and bring him to justice.

"There will be an increase in police patrols in and around the area until further notice and ask anyone who saw anything suspicious at the time of the incident or since then to come forward to police as soon as possible.”

The attacker is described as a white man, between the age of 30 and 40 and was of a slim build, about 5ft 8ins tall with short shaved hair and dark stubble. He was wearing a long dark and long sleeved top with a round top.

It is unknown if either of the two attacks are connected with another incident in which a woman was raped in Worcester Woods Country Park between 5.30pm and 8.30pm on Thursday, July 9.

Although a 33-year-old was arrested following yesterday’s attack, he was later released without charge.
