SCHOOL children have been given the honour of naming Taylor Wimpey’s new housing development in Bidford-on-Avon and were welcomed to the development to see the site's brand new showhome.

The reception class at Bidford-on-Avon Primary School were asked to suggest names for the new development located off Bramley Way – with the winning suggestion being Meadow Fields.

Karen Bent, reception teacher and head of early years foundation stage, said: “All of the children discussed what we can see in the area nearby.

"We got some suggestions such as ‘Bluebell’ and ‘Greengrass’ and even some Power Rangers names, but we all came to an agreement that Meadow Fields was a very fitting choice."

The class was awarded £100 as a prize for choosing the name, which was spent on new furniture for their doll’s house and tools for their forest and eco garden.

The teacher added: “Many of the children we teach in the future might live in the new development, so it’s nice to remember that we got to name the new housing site for Taylor Wimpey.

“The children were delighted that this name was chosen and there were certainly a lot of big smiles when it was announced.

"We want to thank Taylor Wimpey for allowing us to take part and it’s really great to have these links with a local housebuilder that is a big part of our area.”

Elaine Taylor, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey, added: “The children at Bidford-on-Avon Primary School came up with some great ideas for what we should call our new development in the town and we were delighted with the suggestion of Meadow Fields.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to the children and the staff at the school for their hard work and creativity.”
