AN INTREPID pair cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of a charity supporting bereaved stopped off in Worcester as part of their mammoth challenge.

Tim Burgess and Colin Mackintosh left Land’s End on Wednesday, July 22 and have been cycling about 100 miles every day in the epic trip.

The pair arrived in the Faithful City, where Mr Burgess lives with his partner Hannah Hutchinson, on Friday, July 24, and set off on the fourth day leg of their journey to Macclesfield the following morning from the Worcester Cycle Centre in College Street, joined by a group of friends for the first 15 miles of the trip, fuelled by a large bag of gels and protein bars generously donated by the cycle supplies shop.

Mr Burgess, aged 43, is raising money for Ayrtons Dream, a charity set up by his friend Claire Rider after her son was stillborn in 2013. The organisation works to support other parents going through the same ordeal by equipping recovery rooms in hospitals.

Mr Mackintosh, aged 37, whose mother suffers from Parkinson’s disease, is taking on the 1,100-mile challenge to raise money for research into finding a cure for the debilitating condition.

Miss Hutchinson, who is deputy head teacher at Abbey Park First and Nursery School in Pershore, said she was helping out as the duo’s support driver.

“The first week of my summer holidays has been being on standby for the boys,” she said.

“Meeting them several times during the day to give them coffee to warm them up or a change of clothes as the weather has been so wet, lunch stops, punctures repairs to name a few.

“Even though I'm only driving 100 miles a day it's hard work.

“But it's all for two great causes and I'm so proud of the boys.”

The pair, who both work as engineers, hope to reach the most northern point in Britain on Saturday, August 1.
