IT'S been a busy few years for family-run business, Stylish Blinds, which began in a garage five years ago and is now gracing a two-and-a-half thousand square foot workshop and showroom in Four Pools Industrial Estate, in Evesham.

The company is run by husband and wife team Nick and Carolyn Lyes who employ a team of five in the workshop and office and specialise in quality blinds which have been professionally made on site to exact specifications and finished to an ultra-high spec.

And their handiwork will be highlighted on TV in the future after the BBC's DIY SOS team accepted their offer of help during recent filming for an episode in Eckington.

TV appearances aside, the business is growing in its own right.

"It was Carolyn's business to begin with. I used to make conservatories and Carolyn followed behind fitting them out with blinds. Then the conservatory side started to decline in the recession but the blinds' business continued to grow," said Nick.

He brought his window and conservatory manufacturing expertise into the mix and they moved operations to Blackminster before outgrowing that and eventually settling in Four Pools in February this year.

Together the couple offer a bespoke service to customers incorporating their own ideas and are seeing trade increase month by month; so much so they are now looking to employ another fitter and a workshop worker.

"It is important to us that people are happy with the finished product. We really care about the finished look too and constantly look for little touches we can add. The most recent is our investment into an ultra sonic fabric welder that we use instead of stitching. We are one of around only four blinds companies who use this method and it gives a very professional finish. We also use it to make pockets for the weights to keep the vertical blinds straight and neat," he added.

Examples of their range line the showroom walls and there are scores of patterns and fabrics to choose from in their pattern books should the customer need inspiration.

The product range covers conservatory, conservatory roof, pleated, roller, Roman, Venetian, vertical and Vision blinds, all made in the workshop. They also have a option of motorised mechanisms so customers can choose to have blinds operated by remote control.

For customers wanting to add soft furnishings, the company also provides a range of curtains, light shades, cushions and table runners, along with curtain poles.

They are now looking at extending the range to include awnings.
