IT'S important for an MP to meet as many of their constituents as possible — whether they stand on two legs or four.

Nigel Huddleston, MP for Mid-Worcestershire, visited the Dogs Trust Evesham rehoming centre on Pitcher's Hill on August 19.

Mr Huddleston was given an extensive tour of the facilities by centre staff and he met a number of dogs currently waiting for their forever homes, including speckled Collie puppy Sue.

Centre manager, Chris Slight, said: “We were delighted to welcome Nigel to Dogs Trust Evesham. There were lots of waggy tails as he arrived at the centre and it was a great opportunity to show him first hand the work we do for dogs in the local community. There are exciting times ahead for Dogs Trust Evesham and we look forward to working with Nigel as we head into the future."

Mr Huddleston also discussed animal welfare issues with Dogs Trust staff, including the charity’s priorities for the new Parliament.

He said: “I really enjoyed my visit to the centre. The staff were all incredibly enthusiastic about their jobs and the dogs seemed very happy with their environment. I was shown the plans for the new facilities currently being built and was very impressed by what is being constructed.

"Dogs Trust not only does a great job in rehousing dogs in need of a new home, but also does some fantastic policy and awareness campaigning which I fully support. They deserve special credit for all the work and investment they are putting into microchipping.”
