THE long-awaited Norton Parkway train station could get the go-ahead today, Tuesday.

Worcestershire County Council’s planning committee were due to meet this morning to discuss the plans for the £22 million station in the village on the south east edge of Worcester.

This could see the end of decades of discussions and planning. If the new station gets the green light it will link to the Cotswolds and Birmingham to Bristol lines and will include a booking office, toilets, shop and 500 parking spaces as well as a taxi rank, bus stops and a drop-off area.

It already has £7.5 million of funding from the government, with the council expected to take out a £14 million loan to fund the rest.

Both Worcester Foregate Street and Worcester Shrub Hill stations are expected to remain open once the new station is completed.

The meeting at County Hall begins at 10am and is open to the public. For the outcome of the meeting pick up Wednesday’s Worcester News or visit www.worcesternews.co.uk.
