AN EMPLOYEE of an Evesham care home has been applauded for his dedication to helping residents with dementia live their lives to the full.

Maintenance operative at The Hawthorns Care Home in Church Street Peter Hall was awarded a Service Support accolade at the annual awards ceremony run by Shaw Healthcare.

The work which earned Mr Hall the award included creating a sensory experience room where residents can use pots and soil to occupy themselves.

He also regularly offers his own time to take residents of The Hawthorns – which cares for elderly people with dementia – out in the home’s minibus and has installed working radios into disused payphones so patients can hear voice and music at the other end.

Mr Hall said he was delighted to receive the award.

“If there’s anything I can do to enhance the environment our residents call home, I make every effort to do so,” he said.

“I love my job, the team I work with and the residents we support here and I am thrilled to receive this award.

“It just goes to show what difference taking the time to consider and implement improvements around the home can make to residents’ wellbeing and I’m proud of the work I do at The Hawthorns.”

He received the award at a ceremony at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Chipping Norton on Thursday, August 20.
