YOUNG Evesham kayakers will be swapping sea legs for land legs as they take part in their next fundraising event.

A team of volunteers from The Children's Kayak Charitable Trust has set itself the task of running up Mount Snowdon carrying a 40lb 9R kayak which has been donated by Pyranha UK.

Pyranha is also providing a portage pack carrying system; both of which will be auctioned off after the event to raise funds for the charity's continued work.

The Trust, based in Evesham, focuses on teaching children in the Vale area the Olympic sport of kayaking.

The single session programme gives children between the ages of eight and 18 years old vital river rescue and lifesaving skills through using throw-lines, basic kayaking skills and CPR provided by their own qualified doctor.

Over the years the charity has taught over 7,000 children with their experienced team of volunteers. The sessions are held at Evesham Leisure Centre most Saturdays throughout the year.

Now celebrating its 14th birthday the charity has been able to continue its partnership with McDonald's who provide fruit bags for the pool sessions. The well known long running fast food chain has shown its support once again by donating funds for new clothing for the volunteers who are proud to display the golden 'M' on their t-shirts and continue their successful links with the company.

Earlier this year the charity spread its wings to take on a new project in the shape of the 'Why Don’t We' youth minibus, launched in April this year. The project provides transport opportunities for youth groups, schools and other children.

To continue its great work the charity needs to continually strive to raise funds and in October will face Mount Snowdon.

There will be regular updates about the training process for the event on the charity's Facebook page and also on the Pyranha blog
