THE family of a man whose body was found at the side of the road in Stourport have described him as “a wonderful family man”.

The body of Matthew Cullum was found in Hillary Road just before 4am on Saturday, August 29.

Paramedics were called to the scene but the 36-year-old, who worked as a data control operative in the Kidderminster area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a joint statement his family said: "Matthew was tragically taken from us.

“Many people have lost the opportunity to share in the exciting times that lay ahead.

“A great character and wonderful family man, he will be sadly missed and the family would like to thank everyone for the kind messages.

“This is an extremely challenging time and we ask you respect the family's privacy over the forthcoming weeks.”

A 22-year-old man from Kidderminster was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after handing himself in to police on Saturday evening. He has since been bailed until the start of November pending further investigations.

A police appeal for information into the case was launched on Saturday and West Mercia Police constable Lee Baker thanked everyone who had got in touch.

“We're continuing to investigate the circumstances of Mr Cullum's death and appeal for witnesses or anyone with information that may help the investigation to come forward,” he said.

“We are especially keen to speak to anyone who saw a dark coloured Nissan Skyline being driven around the Hillary Road area between 12am and 4am on Saturday.

“The thoughts of the investigation team are with Mr Cullum's family at this time.

“They are currently being supported by specialist officers and I would also ask that their privacy be respected while they come to terms with their loss.”

The road was closed for some time after Mr Cullum’s body was found.
