A WORCESTERSHIRE head has retired after a 25 year career.

Michele Humphreys finished her career at Sedgeberrow CE First School, near Evesham, at the end of the summer on Monday, August 31.

She had been headteacher at the school for eight years and a headteacher for 15 years.

Mrs Humphreys was also previously headteacher at Cutnall Green CE First School, near Droitwich.

Sedgeberrow CE First School's administrator Danielle Eames said under Mrs Humphreys guidance the school had achieved an outstanding judgement from education watchdog in 2014 and a glowing SIAMS report from church inspectors.

She said: "She's really brought the school up in terms of its achievements.

"The school has also become quite well known in the area for its arts curriculum.

"Michele was a musician. She really believed in children having a wider curriculum and learning through drama and music.

"We've been putting on shows at local theatres.

"The children have been learning to play flutes and clarinets and she's had a big involvement in that.

"She's also been a local leader of education, a role whereby she mentors new headteachers."

Mrs Eames said Mrs Humphreys, from Wyre Piddle, now planned to travel and enjoy family time during her retirement.

She said: "She will be greatly missed by colleagues, parents and pupils."

The new term sees new headteacher Philip Croke take on the role at the school.

Mr Croke was previously headteacher at a primary school in Gloucestershire.

Mrs Eames said: "We are all quite excited for the school to start a new chapter."
