KIDDERMINSTER Harriers manager Dave Hockaday has told his players to take heart from their display against Southport despite a 1-0 home loss to their fellow strugglers.

An encouraging display was soured when Andy Bishop pounced in the 83rd minute to extend Kidderminster’s wait for a win to 23 games.

Harriers could count themselves unlucky as Ben Whitfield hit the bar twice but they remain firmly rooted to the foot of the Vanarama National League table.

“We found a way to lose which we certainly did not deserve,” said Hockaday.

“In the first-half I thought we dominated and we hit the woodwork twice.

“We looked good value in the first-half and we dominated the second.

“We had two great chances and the game is about goals.

“Southport scored from their one chance but it was awful defending.

“We defended set pieces well and dominated possession but somehow we did not pick up a 40-yard ball and they scored with a header.”

Despite the loss, there were a number of positives, with Matt Young looking composed on his debut.

Hockaday added: “I thought we switched play well and created some good chances but we have to take them.

“We lost the game but I have told the players there is a big improvement in all areas and we just need to keep believing.”

A strong first-half performance saw Taunton Town cruise to a 3-0 win against an out of sorts Evesham at the Jubilee Stadium in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.

Ryan Broom opened the scoring for the Peacocks in the 25th minute, converting Craig Veal’s low cross past goalkeeper Kevin Sawyer.

The visitors increased their lead courtesy of leading scorer Jordan Rogers’ clever backheel at the near post.

It got worse for the home side one minute before half-time, Broom getting his second.

Evesham’s Louis McGrory rattled a post but Taunton had further chances to increase their lead against a below-par Evesham.

Hereford roared to their 11th successive win with a comfortable 4-0 victory at Brocton in the Midland League Premier Division.

John Mills scored a brace of penalties for table-topping Hereford, with Carlos Moreira and Adam Page also on target for the Bulls. Dan Lomas was red-carded for Brocton.

Stourport Swifts drew 0-0 at Dunkirk, and Jamie Cuss scored in Westfields’ 1-1 home draw against Bardon Hill.
