CHURCH Lench war memorial has been refurbished in time for the Remembrance and Armistice Day services, thanks to the generosity of village residents.

The village has raised £3,000 through donations from locals, as well as grants from Worcestershire County Council and Wychavon District Council.

The memorial has been cleaned and the names of the fallen re-cut as most had become illegible through weathering.

It will be re-dedicated at Sunday's Remembrance Service on November 8, led by the Archdeacon of Worcester, the Venerable Robert Jones. Wreaths will be laid by uniformed members of the regiments in which the fallen served and it is hoped the Warwickshire Yeomanry, the Royal Artillery and the infantry will be present.

Later work to the memorial will be creating steps, paving and a railing to make it safer for people laying wreaths.

Donations for this work is still being sought and can be made to the parochial church council.
