YOU know Christmas is coming to Worcester when the festive tree goes up on the roundabout in St John's.

But for some readers the excitement was somewhat dulled this year when the lights seemed to illuminate only half the tree at the roundabout off New Road.

Reader Jeff Jones sent in a picture of the tree, asking whether it was a "work in progress", while others said it looked unfinished.

Lex Hooper said: "I drove past it earlier and wondered why half of it was naked. It's a poor show", while Lisa Gaming said: "Is that a joke or is that really it?"

Worcester City Council carried out an inspection of the city's lights on Tuesday night, confirming that the tree will soon be lit up in all its glory.

A city council spokesman said: "The lights on the Christmas tree in St John’s are not all on currently, because of an issue with the connections in the wiring within the tree. Because of the bad weather it has not been possible to repair them yet, but we hope to have that done within the next couple of days."
