A DROITWICH youngster is rocking a new style following a drastic charity haircut which raised £370 for children who lose their hair through illness.

Last week, eight-year-old Megan Stokes shed eight inches from her golden locks in aid of the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides free, real-hair wigs to children who have been through cancer treatment.

The St Joseph's Catholic Primary School pupil underwent her transformation at a meeting of the 2nd Droitwich Brownies on Thursday night.

Julia Jackman, Megan's mum, said: "It was an excellent night and the Brownie leaders and troop were amazing selling cakes and home made jewellery to raise extra funds.

"Megan just took it all in her stride, she just wasn't fazed at all. She's swishing it about - it does suit her. She is so glad to do it. She just wants to help girls a boys who have lost their hair."

On the night the youngster's family turned out to support her, while hairdresser Emma Parkins, who runs Perfections Hair Studio in Bromsgrove, cut the new, shorter look.

Speaking before the haircut, Mrs Jackman, of Sandles Road, Droitwich, said: "I think she is a little superstar to put herself forward to raise some money. It was all her own initial thought process to do it. She was the one who suggested it to me and I just instigated it to others.

"It gives so much confidence to the little ones who do not have any hair."

Ms Jackman explained Megan first had the idea when she was having her hair braided on a family holiday to Cornwall earlier this year.

She added: "Megan's school have also supported want Megan is doing and have been very supportive."

The Little Princess Trust is a national charity which provides free, real-hair wigs to children who have lost their own through cancer treatment.
