A BROMSGROVE dad has turned Christmas crooner in a bid to raise money for charity.

Phil Haynes, 46, released his first festive record on Friday, November 18 and has pledged to donate a percentage of the profit he makes to Bromsgrove charity Libby Mae's Little Angels.

Titled 'It's Christmas in our town' and recorded under the band name Vintage 12, Mr Haynes was moved to write the feel-good tune after his daughter Eva suggested the idea back on Boxing Day in 2013.

Mr Haynes said: "I think the Christmas song harks back to the 70's with a modern feel. A little like Wizzard and Slade, who were also both from the Midlands.

"It's catchy, fun, non-religious but with all of the traditional Christmas things many people and families enjoy."

The single, which also features Mr Haynes' friend Niven Smith who produced the track, was due to be released last Christmas.

However, due to last minute complications it was unavailable until just over a week before Christmas Day.

This time round, the musician is hoping to get it right and even has his sights set on a festive Number One.

"It was originally released last year, all last minute with no money," remembered Mr Haynes.

He continued: "Unfortunately the release went wrong and the song wasn't available until December 15, a bit of a disaster really which was a shame.

"There is more time this year and so I really want to give the song a chance. Christmas Number One?"

Accompanied by a fun music video, which was filmed around Bromsgrove with the help of local students and Lorenzo Richards of the Wildmoor Oak Pub as Santa, the single is available at youtube.com/watch?v=1Xlmk22ZxnA

Songwriting has been a long-term passion for Mr Haynes, who has also worked in the Telecoms and motor trade industries.

Libby Mae's Little Angels is a charity which raises money to support 19 neonatal units across the Midlands.

Christmas In Our Town is available to download from various sites including Spotify and iTunes.
