DODDERHILL School pupils joined the Droitwich community at a special service to commemorate loved ones who have died.

The youngsters attended St Richard's Hospice's annual Lights of Love service at the Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, November 17, to honour the memories of people close to their hearts.

Alison Parkes, senior fundraiser at St Richard’s Hospice, said: "The service was full, with over 200 people remembering their loved ones.

"We are very grateful to Dodderhill School for taking part in this community event.

"They have been great supporters of the hospice over many years and we really appreciate all that they do to help us care for our patients and families."

The service at the Worcester Road church was led by Father Vincent Arunlandhu and the Rev Clare Griffiths, who is the lead chaplain at St Richards.

Music and readings accompanied the service, along with reflective time to remember loved ones.

Droitwich's Lights of Love event was not the only one taking place, as many others lit up the county at similar services last week.

Communities from across Worcestershire dedicated lights to relatives and friends who have passed away.

The names of the people remembered will be displayed on boards surrounding the tree in St Andrew's Spire, Worcester, and will also be included in Books of Thanksgiving placed in Droitwich Library, Worcester Cathedral, The Priory in Malvern and Pershore Abbey throughout December.

Ms Parkes continued: "These services are deeply appreciated by the hundreds of people who attend - many of whom are the families and friends of people who are, or who have been, cared for by St Richard's.

"These community gatherings, where people are united by their shared experience of missing someone dear, bring great comfort and support through lighting a candle and taking time to reflect.”

St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with life-threatening illnesses and supports their families.
