A 41-year-old Worcestershire cricket coach who showed a young player a porn film is facing jail after a jury found him guilty of sex offences.

Simon Price, of Lanesfield Road, Evesham, showed the boy a short porn video in a storeroom as a reward for playing well in a coaching session, the jury at Worcester Crown Court was told.

Price, a former sports centre manager at Prince Henry's High School, Evesham, and a coach at Evesham and Harvington cricket clubs, was a well known figure in the cricketing world of the county and had coached hundreds of boys, the court heard.

Jonathan Stanniland, prosecuting, told the jury Price was not a predatory paedophile who had deliberately got involved with young boys but he had "crossed the boundary" and given in to temptation on one occasion.

Kevin Grego, defending, said Price admitted he had shown the boy 10 minutes of a porn DVD but said he had done it because he had been asking questions about sex and he was trying to help him. Price earlier told the jury he had been a fool to show the boy the porn film but he had not done it for sexual gratification.

He denied four charges involving sexual activity in the presence of a child. The jury of seven women and five men found him guilty unanimously of causing a child to watch a sexual activity by a person in a position of trust. They also found him guilty of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity as a person in a position of trust by a majority of 10 to two.

They failed to reach a verdict on two other charges and Mr Stanniland told the court the crown had decided it would not be in the public interest to pursue a retrial.

Judge Robert Juckes, QC, said the offences could carry a jail sentence and he ordered a report to be prepared by the probation service. Price was granted bail and is due to return to court for sentencing on December 4.
