THE year ended with Storm Frank's wind and downpours, and along the way there were stolen puppies, a drugs raid and a huge spillage of cider cans.

As 2015 closes we take a look back at the stories that made the biggest marks over the last 12 months. 

January

Cannabis factory found in Worcestershire traveller site toilets

A DISUSED toilet on a traveller site was being used as a cannabis factory when officers swooped and seized the illegal plants.

About 20 officers raided a traveller site in Cleeve Prior near Evesham while a police helicopter hovered overhead.

Dogs barked and someone shouted, "Give me the warrant!" and "We want to make a complaint!" as officers made a shock raid on the site.

Four springer spaniels stolen from farm near Worcester

FOUR stunning springer spaniel puppies were stolen from a farm near Worcester.

The heartless theft left one of the 10-week-old pedigree pups' owners "gobsmacked".

Francis Shortall, aged 75, raised the litter of 10 "beautiful" puppies at the farm in Suckley.

He sold off five of the animals and kept one for himself and was shocked and saddened by the theft of the remaining quartet.

Taxi careers down steps into the river Severn

A TAXI crashed down some steps into the river Severn in Worcester.

The vehicle avoided being completely submerged by resting on a metal pontoon.

A 27-year-old driver was in the taxi when it careered into the water.

He was able to free himself from the vehicle but was left "shocked"  by the incident, according to police.

Worcester's Archdales club is on fire

A FIRE ripped through Worcester’s Archdales 73 Club.

The fire broke out at the club in Windermere Drive – which has been closed for two months – causing severe damage to the building.

Three fire engines from Worcester and a fourth from Droitwich were called to the scene, and firefighters quickly searched the building following concerns people may have been inside while police closed the road in both directions.

The driving licence changes on Monday: what you need to know

THE DVLA was scrapping the paper driving licence, but the RAC estimated that 55 per cent of people didn't know the change was happening or what it meant.

Woman raped in Worcester Woods Country Park

A WOMAN was raped in Worcester Woods Country Park, Nunnery Wood, Worcester.

Police issued a description of a man they wanted to speak to in connection with the rape, which was believed to have taken place between 5.30pm and 8.30pm.

August

Lorry overturns on roundabout and spills hundreds of cans of cider

A LORRY carrying cider overturned at a roundabout near Worcester.

The 38-tonne lorry was "fully loaded with Bulmers cider" when it overturned at the A44/A4103 roundabout.

The driver was unhurt.

Six police cars and a towing vehicle were at the on scene and hundreds of cider cans were strewn across the road.

Barbourne mother is living the dream after losing almost five stone in a year

SLIM Worcester mum Zoey Patrick looked dazzling in a fitting black dress as she celebrated losing almost five stone in less than 12 months.

Zoey, 29, of Barbourne, weighed 14st 11lbs, wore size 18 clothes and hid her figure behind scarves and cardigans in 2014.

But after signing up to a Slimming World group in Perdiswell she shed the pounds, re-built her confidence and transformed her life for the better.

Bodies of man and woman found in Warndon Villages

One of the saddest stories of the year. The bodies of a man and woman were found in a home in Warndon Villages, Worcester.

Police were called to Debdale Avenue after they received a call raising concerns for the welfare of a woman in the house.

Officers found the bodies of a man and woman, believed to be in their 20s, and the investigation is being described as in the "early stages".

November

Stabbing of Worcester man sends shockwaves through city

THE stabbing of a Worcester man sent shockwaves through the city.

The 30-year-old was taken to hospital with serious wounds to his abdomen after he was stabbed in Bath Road.

Police confirmed there were two individuals involved in the incident, and they are known to each other.

Out of control narrowboat in Worcester

AN out of control narrowboat drifted towards Worcester's bridges in rising flood water.

The unmanned boat, called Expensive Hobby, was seen spinning in the fast flowing waters of the Severn on a collision course for city bridges.

But disaster was averted thanks to the quick and courageous actions of specialist boat crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.
