A RESCUED greyhound has joined the congregation at Pershore Abbey after she found a new home with vicar Claire Lording.

Annie the retired racing greyhound was welcomed into the Rev Lording's home four months ago, following a stint in the care of Greyhound Rescue West of England (GRWE).

She has quickly settled into life with her new owner, who she accompanies to church every weekday for the evening service at Pershore Abbey.

Rev Lording, who is the vicar of Pershore parish, said: "Annie is totally adorable and she’s loved by all who meet her. She gets invited on lots of play dates – my parishioners are always asking if she would like to go out for a walk.

"Annie is very relaxed and she follows me everywhere. She enjoys the services and is so well behaved. Every evening she jumps up and lets me know when it’s time to head to the abbey."

One of Annie's favourite places to relax is on the sofa in the vicarage study, which means visiting parishioners often have to share the seat. The loveable dog is also partial to jumping in visitor's cars.

Rev Lording added: "Annie loves going out in the car, mainly because it means a walk somewhere lovely.

"However, she will be quick to jump into a visitor’s car if they leave the door open for a fraction of a second too long.

"I wouldn’t be without a greyhound. Annie is the fourth greyhound I have had and they have all been absolutely wonderful in very different ways.

"They bring so much joy to life. I really think everyone should have a greyhound!"

Hilary Bubb, regional homing officer for GRWE, said: "The Herefordshire and Worcestershire region of GRWE is run completely by volunteers, and it’s wonderful for us when our dogs go on to have such happy lives.

"There are so many greyhounds and lurchers in need of a home and we desperately want to be able to help more."
