A MUSICAL extravaganza will take place in Droitwich to celebrate the Queen's official 90th birthday this weekend.

From 1pm on Saturday, June 11, a host of entertainment from local performers will fill the Spa town's St Andrew's Shopping Centre.

Droitwich's new mayor Roy Murphy will officially launch the party with Worcestershire County Councillor Pam Davey, and the day's events will build to the star attraction - the Rhapsody Queen Tribute Band at 7.30pm.

John Dudley, of 4 Shires Festivals which is organising the event, said: "It is going to be a tremendous atmosphere.

"We think it is something that should be celebrated. It won't happen very often. It is the last Queen for a while, so why not celebrate it?

"She has done a wonderful job for the country and the communities so we want to pay back by celebrating her."

Included in the packed line-up is the Witton Middle School choir, magician Dave Jones, vintage jazz swing artist Chuck Harriet and local singer Hannah Just.

To round off the event, Rhapsody Queen Tribute Band will perform a three-hour show in honour of the Monarch.
