EVESHAM Rowing Club enjoyed the highlight of their regatta season with a fine display at Stratford.

Junior squad coaches Simon Edwards, Abi Terry and Andy Woodward set their sights on equalling last year’s total of seven wins and bettered it with nine as Evesham were awarded the Victor Ludorum, the King’s Trophy.

Competitors mastered their steering over the 500-metre upstream sprint course made more difficult by a faster than normal flow.

In their singles and in all-Evesham finals, Tom Woodward and Callum McIntyre beat team-mates Alex Edwards and Arran Bennett respectively.

Bennett and McIntyre earlier combined to win well in their double.

Woodward and Edwards went on to win in their double later and Jack Harris and Sam McClenahan, two of the youngest members of the squad, beat their club rivals, Andrew Smithson and Jaden Fradd.

The girls’ junior 15 quad made up of cox Liv Evans, Lucy Heal, Issy Clarke, Sophie Stoddart and Immy Ledbetter collected another good win.

In another all-Evesham final and trophy event, Sophie Evans joined Rosie Macdonald to beat Georgii Bragg and Libby Akerman to take the Avon Jubilee Challenge Bowl.

Stoddart and Ledbetter also took the winner’s prize in the Francis Harris Cup, while Poppy Cullen and Georgii Banton collected their ninth win.
