SAJID Javid has confirmed he is throwing his hat into the ring for Chancellor - serving under a Stephen Crabb premiership.

The duo, who hosted a drinks bash with Tory MPs last night to try and garner support, have confirmed they are making a dash for Downing Street in the leadership election.

Mr Crabb, 43, the current work and pensions secretary, is still ranked as an outsider with Boris Johnson and Theresa May the two frontrunners.

But his name will appear on the first Tory ballot for MPs, with nominations due to close at midday tomorrow.

Mr Javid, who represents Bromsgrove and is the current Business Secretary, is hoping it propels him into Number 11.

He has dismissed suggestions the duo could be the wrong fit for the roles, as both backed Remain, saying "we're all Brexiteers now".

He said: "The team that Stephen will put together would be the team that would lead this country, and that team will include people that were on all sides of the campaign.

"But more importantly, the decision has clearly been made, the instructions to the Government have been issued and that's the job of the next Government to implement that."

Speaking on the Today programme, he also said he believed it is possible to strike a deal over accessing the Single Market whilst limiting migration.

"No-one knows what deal we're going to get with the EU, but you need people who can do the negotiation, have clear ideas, can assemble a team that has experience and can come up with the right deal," he added.

"It's all about implementation now and who are the best people and the best team to get this done - in some ways we're all Brexiteers now."

Education Secretary Nicky Morgan, who has Worcester MP Robin Walker as her parliamentary private secretary, is said to be still considering her options.

A new Tory leader and Prime Minister will be announced in the first week of September after two final candidates are sent out to 130,000 party members.
