DOG owners from across the region gathered at the showground at Evesham's Valley shopping centre this weekend, attracting several hundred people.

The charitable dog show was the brainchild of local women Julie Young and Mary Jones, whose passion for canines led to challenging themselves to raise a whopping £10,000 for the Dog’s Trust, Evesham.

The funds will provide much-needed equipment for the training rooms at the trust's centre.

Julie Young said: “We were overwhelmed by the response from the public today. It was so uplifting to see so many different gorgeous breeds from poodles to beagles and huskies to Yorkshire terriers.

"I must say a big thank-you to all those that volunteered their time to help out, the businesses that contributed generously with many raffle prizes, and especially to the brand new pet store at the Valley, Bessie and Boo who were the main sponsors of the show.

“We raised over £4,500 on the day, which helps us well on the way to reaching our target of £10,000. You can still donate online at mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/mandjcharitychallenge."
