A PEACE garden has been created in the school grounds of an Evesham first school.

Children from the eco club at Bretforton First School have led the project to create the garden during a year long project.

They chose to create a peace garden after marking the centenary of World War One and learning about VE Day in World War Two.

The children felt a quiet, reflective space would be a lasting way to remember those who fought in the wars.

The whole school was involved with the garden, from the initial design and choice of planting through to the practical construction of it.

Children and school staff worked hard helped by financial and practical support from the wider community.

The garden was possible thanks to a £500 donation from Bretforton Gardening Club.

Jo Ellis, Eco co-ordinator, said: "It has been so rewarding for the children to see their original design become a finished garden.

"The children have gained so many new skills and have understood the value of working as a team to be able to complete the project."

The garden was opened during a ceremony by Reverend Philip Morton.
