FOOTPATH works in Worcester city centre are causing heavy traffic.

Drivers are experiencing delays due to off-peak footpath repairs taking place on Deansway between All Saints Church and Heart of Worcestershire College.

A lane on the busy A44 Deansway has to be closed while the work, to repair a damaged kerb, is carried out.

The closure has led to traffic queues during the day, with some drivers experiencing delays of around 10 minutes.

The work started on Monday (August 22) and is due to continue until next Wednesday, August 31.

Worcestershire County Council is asking drivers to be patient, saying it is carrying out the repairs during off-peak hours to minimise disruption.

Cllr Marcus Hart, cabinet member for Highways, said: "We ask pedestrians and drivers to bear with us while work is carried out to the footway and a damaged kerb is repaired outside All Saints Church, on the A44 Deansway in Worcester.

“This work has been scheduled out of peak hours and during the school holidays to keep disruption to a minimum."

Drivers can keep up to date on traffic works via the council twitter account @WorcTravel, through their website and on the news and social media page.
