A WORCESTER head who hit the headlines over plans to charge for the school’s nativity play was forced to write to parents to warn them about being aggressive to staff.

Louise Bury, head at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary, said staff were verbally abused in the playground over ticketing plans for the performances.

Mrs Bury said: “It was reported to me by staff that they had been spoken to in an aggressive way and that is unacceptable.”

She wrote to parents to ask if a parent’s code of conduct needed to be created to protect teachers.

However, Mrs Bury said she has since received an outpouring of support from parents and teachers after our story about the nativity row at the Warndon school was picked up by national newspapers, TV and radio stations.

She turned down a host of interviews, including with Sky News and Good Morning Britain, but spoke to the Worcester News about being in the national spotlight.

She said: “I have had so much love it’s unbelievable.

“My parents are amazing. I heard them on the radio supporting me.

“I’ve had emails from headteachers all over Worcester.

“I’ve even had a head from Wales ring me to say we’ve always charged for our nativity. I’ve had so much support.”

She added: “It’s been a hell of an experience but it’s made me even more passionate about catering for all the needs of the children in my school and that my relationships with parents are really important.

“We can only work successfully with children if we have successful relationships with the parents.”

She said she was disappointed the anonymous parent at the centre of the row had not approached her directly but she wanted to try harder to reach everybody.

She said: “My parents know I’m a very approachable person and if they’ve got a problem they come and speak to me about it and we will do our best to try to accommodate them.”

She added: “As a school, we will reflect on this with our parents and move forward positively.”
