A SECTION of Broadway's flood alleviation scheme has been completed by Worcestershire County Council's highway drainage team.

The £125,000 project involved building a new culvert across private land to ensure that flows stay within the watercourse and to reduce the risk of flooding for homes and businesses on the High Street, affected by flooding in 2007.

The latest work has seen a culvert replaced at the upper end of High Street, which has reduced the risk of flooding for more than 25 properties in the village.

The work, along with the larger flood alleviation work on Badsey Brook, has been jointly funded by Worcestershire County Council, the regional food and coastal committee, and the parish council.

Broadway county councillor Liz Eyre said: "Understandably, our current focus in Broadway is on the really encouraging preparations for the large flood alleviation scheme on the Badsey Brook at the lower end of the village.

"However, the replacement of this important culvert will reduce the risk of flooding for more than 25 properties in the village.

"I know that the scheme faced a number of technical and logistical challenges which have delayed its completion but I am grateful that the local councils, landowners and the community have collaborated so well to overcome them and make it happen."
