A GROUP of footballing friends have clubbed together to donate hundreds of t-shirts to disadvantaged children in South Africa.
The Droitwich Spa Vets FC held a 'shirt amnesty' for members to hand in no longer worn football tops collected on trips away over the years.
The shirts were then packed into crates and have been shipped to students at Schietsdrift School in South Africa.
Peter Evans, who helped arrange the collection, said: "They are so short of resources and supplies and yet they are so very happy.
"My own view was we back in the UK should be grateful for what we have and not whinge as much, because they really do have a hard life.
"We had what we called a 'shirt amnesty'. We collected items from that era of the football club - some people threw in other things like football shirts.
"We will achieve nothing for Droitwich, or Droitwich Vets - the real achievement is utilising garments we have collected over 20 odd years and sending them to kids who can actually use them."
The group chose to send the shirts to Schietsdrift School because members had previously worked at the school during a charity challenge.
The shirts were collected by members of the Vets team during footballing holidays abroad for which they would have t-shirts made.
