HUNDREDS of people gathered to celebrate the lives of loved ones at a "beautiful" service in Pershore.

Guests crowded in to Pershore Abbey on Wednesday, November 30, for the St Richard's Hospice 'Lights of Love' service.

Youngsters from Abbey Park First and Middle Schools sang at the service, and visitors lit lights in memory of relatives and friends.

The service was led by the Reverend Claire Lording, priest in charge of the Abbey, and the Rev Clare Griffiths, lead chaplain of St Richard’s Hospice.

Alison Parkes, senior fundraiser at the Hospice, said: "This was a beautiful service and is one which is appreciated and brings comfort to those attending, many of whom are the families and friends of people who are, or who have been, cared for by St Richard's.

"This year lights have been dedicated to 2,740 names so far and donations of over £37,000 towards our hospice care which will help us make a difference to those we support."

The names of loved ones are displayed on boards surrounding the tree in St Andrew's Spire, Worcester and in Books of Thanksgiving placed in Pershore Abbey, Droitwich Library, Worcester Cathedral and Great Malvern Priory.
