WORK is set to get underway next week on the expansion of an Evesham surgery.

The DeMontfort Medical Centre, in Burford Road, is being refurbished and extended with the work expected to take around seven months to complete.

The project will see the creation of six new consulting rooms to allow the centre to meet future demand for medical help - allowing the centre to eventually be able to cater for an additional 7,500 patients.

The extension also gives the surgery opportunity to house services such as physiotherapy and other community services locally.

The car park will feature an additional six new spaces, but patients are being warned part of the car park - 25 spaces - will be unavailable during the work while motorcycle bays will be relocated.

Patients are being advised that if the 39 spaces that will be available on the car park are all taken during the work, a short stay car park is available in nearby The Leys car park.

Councillor Richard Morris, board member for economy and housing at Wychavon, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience while this work is taking place but it will be worth it, as when finished the new expanded centre will play an important role in meeting the future healthcare needs of Evesham residents.”

Christine Colls, practice manager at DeMontfort Medical Centre, added: “With the support of Wychavon and NHS England we’re extending our premises to meet the increasing health needs and patient population in the local area.

"We apologise for the disruption to the local area while the works are taking place and will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum.”

Patients, including those with restricted mobility, who have any questions or queries during the work can call the surgery on 01386 429240.
